October 1st marked the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but October is about more than just raising awareness for breast cancer; it is about taking action to save lives. One of the largest events dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, education, and health promotion initiatives is the CIBC Run for the Cure. In fact, the Run for the Cure is Canada'a largest, single-day, volunteer-led event.
The 23rd annual run took place on Sunday, October 5, drawing thousands of participants from the Metro Vancouver area. Participants have the option to walk or run either a 1km or a 5km route starting at Concord Pacific Place. Ashton College staff were out in full force to show solidarity for the 1 in 9 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their life time.
Prior to the run, Ashton Staff held a bake sale to raise money for the foundation. With the support of the staff, faculty, and students the college was able to raise over $260.00 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
If you would like to help support this cause, pink ribbons will be available by donation in suite 410 for the rest of the month. Let's help create a world without cancer.
