Online study offers the ability for students to learn in the manner that best suits their needs and in the comfort of their own home. When studying for the big exam, there are a number of simple strategies that can make all the difference between success and failure. We review a list of guidelines below that take into account those courses that are specifically tailored for online learning.
Be Organised. What does that mean? When it comes to studying for that big exam, you owe it to yourself to have all your material together. Don’t waste valuable time trying to find files or lose your log-in code. Remember: focus, focus, focus.
Plan in Advance. If you have a 10 or 12-week class, do not leave everything to the last minute. Be current and keep up. This way, more stays in your brain.
Create Outlines. This is one of the best tips and tools for everyone. Sure, it takes more work to review your notes on an ongoing basis and do a summary, but guess what? It pays dividends. You can’t expect yourself to remember key points when you are pouring over hundreds of pages. Think of outlines like the building blocks in your mind. It gives everything else structure,
Keep Hydrated. Yup. Important. You may be slaving away over a hot computer but drinking water helps you stay fresh.
Online Training Manuals. This is where online learning really comes into its own. Press click and review whenever you want. If you have followed Tip #3 above, you can also compare your outline to key parts of the training manual.
Student Tutorial Videos. Some people learn better by watching, others learn by reading and re-reading. Taking advantage of the tutorial videos by way of a quick review can be helpful in that final week before the big exam.
Chat Groups. It can often be a real benefit to interact with other students and share ideas. Chat groups or videoconferencing online serves the same need as meeting in person.
Seek Clarity. If confusion sets in during that final week of study, it is not too late to ask for help. Clarity may be needed from your instructor to better understand a difficult concept or help may be required from a friend or spouse to set aside extra time to study. Whatever the situation, make time now, after the exam is too late.
Access to Content. Quick and easy access to additional content over the internet is one of the great advances in learning over the last few decades. Use this to your advantage for that big exam.
