The field is constantly growing, which provides ample opportunities for professional development. Bookkeeping can be versatile, challenging and even exciting depending on how passionate you’re about your career. Need more proof? Read this blog to learn about the main reasons why you should take bookkeeping or accounting courses.
No experience? No problem! Bookkeeping is one of the fields you can get into relatively easily and quickly. There are no formal prerequisites required to start a bookkeeping course, except for being 19 years old at the time of applying and having a highschool education. Thus, bookkeeping is equally suitable for recent high-school graduates and middle-aged career changers. During your studies, you will learn about all of the main principles and processes of bookkeeping, software applications that are used in the field, cost accounting, taxation, payroll and other related subjects. You can land a job in bookkeeping within just a few weeks after completion of your training program.
In uncertain times and unsteady economies, stability can be a key factor to consider while choosing a career. Bookkeepers and accountants are always in demand. All types of businesses, from multinational corporations to local grocery shops, need to take care of their books. Bookkeeping has been on the list of the most stable jobs in Canada and other countries for years and will continue to remain one of the top choices for people who value employment security and regular paychecks. Individuals who have taken a professional bookkeeping or accounting program will always be in demand.
Being a bookkeeper means having the flexibility and control over your working schedule. You can work full-time or part-time, depending on your preferences. You can even become a freelancer and work from home in your pyjamas with a cup of tea in hand. It gives you an opportunity to combine your job with education, professional development, volunteering, hobbies, family responsibilities and any other commitments you may have.
You can get your foot in the door right after taking a bookkeeping course and start working your way up the career ladder. The bookkeeping field always offers something to learn and master. Also, do not forget about multiple opportunities to transition into higher-paying jobs once you obtain enough experience and feel comfortable with the basics. You can become an accountant or take on the role of a financial advisor within a few years if you are passionate about learning and exploring new options. The sky is the limit.
Due to the nature of a bookkeeper’s job, you can choose the desired work style, the number of clients you want to deal with, the frequency of interaction with them and so on. You’re free to decide how much time you want to spend working and how much effort you want to put into it. All of the above affects your attitude to work and brings contentment to your professional life. When you help clients manage their finances and receive praise for keeping them in order, it gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Regardless of what path you choose, remember that the key to success is enjoying what you do and exploring new horizons. Stay relevant by prioritizing your continuing education as you progress along your career path.
