Swedish student, Emilie Andersson, knew she wanted to study abroad. After looking online for programs that interested her, Andersson came across Ashton College.
“I wanted to study abroad, and I wanted a program that wasn’t too expensive and wasn’t too long.” Anderson is currently working on a BA from Sweden studying Sociology and Organizational Behaviour. She hopes to eventually work with organizational development and international business, so a Diploma in Business from Ashton College was the perfect fit.
Andersson advises that other international students not be afraid to get to know the city and the people, “What I found was that a lot of the other students don’t actually experience the city, I mean there are a lot of things you can do here. It actually helps to improve your English too.”
“The most difficult thing about studying abroad is that the teacher’s expectations might be different than what you are used to,” adds Andersson, “It hasn’t been a huge problem, but I think some of my fellow students maybe thought that the teachers were expecting something else. It’s cultural too. Swedish culture is pretty similar to Canadian culture, so it wasn’t too much of a problem for me.”
Andersson said that above all, studying abroad is a positive experience, “You gain a lot of experience and you get to know people from all around the world and, I mean, what we learned in this diploma – you can apply to everyday life – it was a great experience all around.”
Emilie Andersson graduated with a Diploma in Business in 2013, and is still exploring Canada. She hopes to eventually work within the country.
