Standards of Excellence
The need for a home inspection course was first introduced to ensure industry regulation and reflect the high standards that Canadians have come to expect from home inspectors. Home inspection courses are designed to provide prospective home inspectors with the technical and report-writing skills necessary to perform quality home inspections. Although home inspections are currently only regulated in British Columbia and Alberta, having a Home Inspection certificate assists home inspectors across Canada achieve a higher standard of professionalism. The new standards will be under the banner of the CSA (Canadian Standards Association), allowing for improved oversight of the profession, as well as better consumer education.
Regulations
Currently, only two provinces in Canada regulate the training of home inspectors in Canada: Alberta and BC. These 10 Live Online courses, led by instructors in the home inspection industry, prepare students for the Canadian Home Inspection Examination as administered by the Home Inspector’s Association of BC (HIABC). These courses meet the requirements for licencing as a home inspector in Alberta as well.
