After studying French at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, Carey was inspired to study French at the University of Calgary.
After graduating with a BA, Carey move onto the University of Ottawa where she graduated with a LL.B (JD) cum laude. Shortly thereafter, Carey completed an internship at the International Court of Arbitration of the ICC (the World Business Organization) in Paris, France.
She later served on the Board of Directors of the ADR Institute of Canada as well as the BC Arbitration and Mediation Institute. Cheri recently completed a three-year appointment as a Public Director of the Financial Planners Standard’s Council. Cheri has extensive trial experience (barrister for the defense). She practices law full-time at the firm of Lindsay LLP in downtown Vancouver.
With all of these accomplishments, it was a natural step for Carey to be admitted to the prestigious London School of Economics in 2013. Carey studies part time at the London School of Economics where she is taking Executive Master’s (LLM) Programme Faculty of Law (distance learning).
The Executive LLM is one of the most innovative and intellectually exciting of LLM programmes offered in Europe today. The programme is offered to individuals in full time employment who are not in a position to take a year-long break from work.
Carey is able to still maintain her job here in Vancouver, while completing courses online. While it might seem like a lot to commute from Vancouver to London, the classes are offered in a condensed one week period, and spaced apart by several months. “I didn’t get a chance to explore at all when I was there last. The course schedule was so intensive!”
Carey will have to travel back to London several more times before her degree is completed, “Next time I plan on staying for a few extra days and exploring with my husband.”
The (LLM) Programme Faculty of Law offers modules in a broad range of fields including arbitration, human rights and international law, and corporate, commercial and financial law.
Carey is excited to use the information she has learned both in her professional life and as an instructor at Ashton College. She has not only gained valuable knowledge, but also learned great new teaching techniques which she hopes to share with her future students.
