Published On: April 12, 2016Applications for the 2016 Lilian To bursary are now being accepted! The Lilian To bursary is awarded to recent Canadian immigrants to help them kickstart their career in Canada with the credentials and knowledge necessary for success.
The bursary is awarded in memory of Lilian To, a Vancouverite and outstanding Canadian leader who devoted her life to helping new immigrants adjust to Canadian society. Lilian To was a long-serving executive director and CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S, a community organization that provides assistance to new immigrants. Even though she passed away in 2005, her legacy still lives on.
“I had heard about the Lilian To bursary for Canadian immigrants and read about Lilian and her amazing achievements… when I found out the deadline [for the Lilian To bursary] was approaching fast, I decided to apply anyway. So I told my story and I won, I couldn’t believe it!” – Daya Iyer, HR.
Offered in partnership with Canadian Immigrant Magazine, the Lilian To Bursaries are given to up to four exceptional individuals who demonstrate a need and a desire to get ahead in Canada. With the multitude of challenges that recent immigrants to Canada face, including unrecognized credentials and struggles to adjust to the Canadian lifestyle, the Lilian To bursary can be a helpful aid for those who want to kickstart their Canadian career.
The award can be used for any of the programs and courses offered at Ashton College, and can be put towards tuition or registration fees (excluding books, application fee and material fee). Some of our subject areas include Immigration Consulting, Human Resources, Sales and Marketing, Financial Services and Bookkeeping.
The maximum value of each of the four bursaries is $8,000, and the applications are being accepted now, until July 30, 2016.
The application is open for recent immigrants to Canada who have obtained their Canadian citizenship or Permanent Residency and who have arrived in Canada for the first time within the past 5 years.
To apply for the bursary, you need to submit the following:
An external panel of four judges will evaluate the submitted information, and will choose up to 4 students for the bursary. The bursaries are non-transferable, they should be used within one calendar year from the awarded date, and cannot be applied to tuition already paid, or to programs in which the applicant is already enrolled.
You can read more about the application process on our website here.
