“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

– Ferris Bueller from Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Sound familiar? Chances are you can relate to moving quickly through life. Maybe you have a packed schedule or are tied down by too many commitments. Perhaps you are all too familiar with the feeling of being weighed down by possessions you no longer care about, commitments you regret or immense pressure from the outside world. So what should you do? How can you streamline your life and work towards a happier, healthier you? Read on to learn about the gradual process of slowing down, shifting priorities and getting your life back with the support and guidance of a professional life coach.

Why should you consider slowing down and shifting focus?

No person can be everything to everyone. We all have areas where we thrive and areas where we struggle. Our strengths and weaknesses are what make us each fascinating and unique human beings. But limitations can be hard to accept and sometimes we take on more than we can handle. The problem with pushing ourselves past our natural capacity is that our drive for success can often turn into workaholic tendencies and burning out. When we burn the candle at both ends, we are also more vulnerable to chronic health challenges and unpredictable symptoms of stress. Slowing things down and working towards a more balanced approach can beautifully shift your perspective and make room for added joy in your life.

What can you do to help yourself right now?

Pause.

Too simple? The best advice often is. Before you scroll respond to that seemingly pressing work email, take a moment to pause and reflect on how you are feeling in this moment. Is your heart rate elevated? Are you thirsty, hungry or tired? Do you have too much on your plate? The simple act of pausing and checking in with yourself is a commitment to your wellness. Whenever you are overwhelmed by life, try slowing down your busy thoughts. Lean into your mindfulness training and intuition. You could even try meditating for a couple of minutes! Consider adding meditation to your study routine or interrupting your workday with a short meditative break.

How can a professional life coach help you move forward?

Making radical changes can be overwhelming, even when you know they will lead to improved quality of life and increased happiness. Working with a professional life coach can take some of the pressure off because they are uniquely equipped to support and guide you through the process. Life coaches are particularly skilled at helping people live their best lives by cutting through the noise and shifting priorities. You can feel confident in their support because professional coaches go through extensive life coach training and a complete coach certification process. Life coaches are highly skilled when it comes to active listening and powerful questioning, because of their prior communication skills training and practical experience working with other clients. Look for someone who shares your values and is committed to their own ongoing learning and continuing education too. Bring all of yourself to the conversation and trust the process.
