Anthony Margery Cantil is originally from the Philippines and arrived in Canada with her family in 2012. At first, Margery felt like she was in paradise, “I was amazed by the rejuvenating environment where nature is so well preserved.” However, a few months later, she realized to survive in Canada, she would need to acquire an education in order to have a better future.
Margery admires Canada’s government-funded healthcare system for new immigrants and citizens. She also believes that Canada is a safe place to live with her family because Canada welcomes all cultures and religions. Margery says, “I can feel the sense of belongingness to this country.”
Before Margery’s nursing career, she was an Operations Officer in a government owned and operated financial corporation for over three years. Margery then became a Registered Nurse in the Philippines. She is very committed to her work and is described as goal-oriented and trustworthy. “My achievements were an outcome of being optimistic in all possibilities that came along my journey,” she explains.
Margery currently holds two degrees, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. She’s also completed the International Education Health Professional Course in Kwantlen Polytechnic University in 2012.
As a winner of the 2014 Lilian To Bursaries, Margery will be enrolling in Ashton College’s International Trade Program and will be entering a brand new industry. Although Margery is a ‘Jill’ of all trades, she is most passionate about business, sales and marketing and considers it her forte.
Margery is excited to start the International Trade program at Ashton College. “Ashton College is known for quality education,” she says, “and committed to giving excellent results to their graduates.” Margery also looks forward to meeting new friends from different cultures and backgrounds.
Margery advises newcomers that are coming into Canada to consider going to Ashton College to get a diploma that would enhance their skills. “There are better opportunities that await.”
