Certificate in Immigration Detention Reviews Overview
This course is a certificate in Immigration Detention Reviews and will examine the detention review process. This course gives an overview of the Law of Arrest and Detention under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Students will explore the various grounds for detention, as well as look at the process of detention of children. This course also examines the processes surrounding release from detention and appealing a detention review.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Outline the Law of Arrest and Detention under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and its Regulations
- Explain the detention review process

- Explain detention on the ground of being a danger to the public
- Explain detention on the ground of identity
- Explain detention of children
- Explain the process of release from detention and the various conditions of release
- Identify the appeal process of a detention review
Admission Requirements
Although there are no formal admission requirements for this course, due to the advanced nature of the material covered, it is presumed that attendees have a basic knowledge of Canadian Immigration Law in general and this topic in particular.

Upon completion of the course requirements, a Certificate of Completion will be issued.
Live Online Students
Ashton College uses web conferencing tools for conducting online classes and online learning management systems for managing resources, assignments, and grades. These tools help instructors and students connect live online as well as asynchronously. The basic requirements for online learning include a computer, webcam, speakers, and a microphone or a headset and headphones, along with a reliable internet connection.
