Published On: May 3, 2019We want to inform you of upcoming changes that the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) has reported with regard to the academic requirements to qualify as a Registered Immigration Consultant.
On May 1, 2019, the ICCRC announced that effective January 2021, prospective Immigration Consultants would be required to enrol in a new Immigration and Citizenship Graduate Diploma Program (ICGDP) at a University level. The ICGDP would only be offered by Queen’s University (accredited English provider) and the Université de Sherbrooke (approved French provider). The ICGDP will be developed by these two providers and offered online as well as in a blended format (online/onsite) through each provider’s Faculty of Law.
This change is part of the action plan announced by the Canadian government. Under this new plan, the ICGDP will be a 66-week program, and entry to this new program will require an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) and a high level of English language proficiency.
The transition to the ICGDP will result in the gradual phasing out of our current IMCD program. Only the two universities mentioned above have been approved as accredited providers and will be permitted to accept new registrants to the ICGDP program. Ashton College will still be able to admit students to the Immigration consultant program until July 31, 2020.
We will continue to offer our IMCD program until December 31, 2022. However, the cut-off date for accepting new students into the IMCD will be July 31, 2020. We have been a leader in the immigration consultant program for over a decade and have maintained the highest standard and quality of delivery. Thousands of our graduates are a testimony to that, many of whom today are running successful practices or working with prominent immigration consulting companies.
We want to assure our current students that none of these changes will affect them. You will still be able to finish your program and pursue your chosen career as an immigration consultant and help prospective immigrants turn their hopes and dreams into reality. You will continue to receive the excellent, practical, up-to-date education you’ve been receiving.
Once you finish your program, you will be allowed to take the RCIC EPE up to three years after graduating from the IMCD. However, when the first cohort of students graduates from the new ICGDP, the RCIC EPE will be updated to reflect the augmented National Education Standards.
For our prospective students: If you’re in the process of enrolling or are thinking of enrolling in our Immigration consultant course, please be assured that the program will continue in its current form till – as stated before – December 31, 2022. However, the final date for admitting new students is July 31, 2020. If you enrol with us before the deadline, you will still follow the existing program guidelines, structure, curriculum, and exam format. If you wish to graduate before the new rules are in place, this is your opportunity to do so.
Thanks again for your trust in us and appreciation for our IMCD program over the years. We wish you all the best.

Hi, I would like to be a part of the July 11th, 6 month program. Has COVID-19 affected that intake at all?
HI,
I AM INTERESTED TO BECOME IMMIGRATION CONSULTANT AS I FIND KEEN INTEREST TO PURSUE THIS CAREER. I HAVE FEW QUESTIONS REGARDING ACADEMICS IELTS. ACCORDING TO MY UNDERSTANDING, THE IELTS REQUIREMENTS TO ENROLL IN THIS COURSE IS DIFFERENT THAN EPE EXAM. FOR EXAMPLE, IF I HAVE ACADEMICS OVERALL IELTS SCORE 6 BUT TO ELIGIBLE TO SIT IN EPE EXAM I HAVE TO GIVE IELTS AGAIN TO GET ABOVE 7 IN EACH MODULES.
SECOND, DUE TO COVID ALL IELTS CENTRE ARE CLOSED, I AM INTERESTED IN MAY FULL TIME BATCH. CAN I SUBMIT MY IELTS LATER AFTER ENROLLING IN MAY BATCH. JUST WONDERING.
THANKS
RENU
Hi Renu,
You’re right, Academic IELTS level 6.0 is accepted by Ashton College for admitting a student to an IMCD program. As for the EPE exam, you can re-take IELTS closer to the date of your exam, which will be no sooner than you graduate from the IMCD program. We encourage you to apply now for May intake, as seats fill very quickly. Please apply here: https://india.ashtoncollege.ca/programs/immigration-consultant-diploma-imcd/
If I learn this programs now and graduate before 2021,Dec31, then can I still get rcic certificate?
Hi Maggie,
Yes, if you enrol in the Immigration Consultant Diploma Program before July 31, 2020 you will be able to complete the program following the existing program guidelines, structure, curriculum, and exam format to obtain RCIC licence.

Hi There,
Hope all is well.
I’ve inquired about the online immigration program a couple of months back. With the new legislation coming in place next year, I want to ensure that I have an opportunity to enroll in your May or June 2020 intake.
Can you please confirm the dates for May 2020 and June 2020 intake?
There is a high possibility that my sister will also pursue this online program with me as she’s currently studying Social Service Worker & Immigration.
Please confirm.

I am currently holding a work permit in Canada. I just wanna know whether this IMCD online program is a 100% online program? Because if this is not a 100% online program(e.g., requires quiz and tests on campus) , I have to apply for a study permit according to CIC website). Thank you for responce.
Hi Yangyang,
If you’re taking an online program, you don’t need to attend the campus for any reason. Please find out more about the program here: https://india.ashtoncollege.ca/programs/immigration-consultant-diploma-imcd/
However, once you complete the program you must appear for an RCIC qualification exam in person.

Hi Amritpal,
All modules of the program must be 65% or higher final grade to count as “passed”.

Dear Sir,
I want to ask that if i take admission in July 2020 into IMCD program then what would be the last month and year, i can give exam based on the old format.
Because my concern is, as new ICGDP program will start From January 2021 and it is 66 week long. It means the new program student would gradute in March-April 2022 and then would be eligible to give ICGDP exams. But if the old exam format is applicable till Dec 2022 then what kind of exam format the new students will appear.
Please solve my query.
thanks
Mike
Hi Mike,
If you enrol in the current IMCD program before July 31, 2020, you will be able to complete it and will be eligible to take the RCIC exam in the old format before December 2021. After January 2022 the new exam will be introduced and you will be required to take the new exam, regardless of what program you took, old or new.
If you have any further questions, please submit an enquiry on our contact page https://india.ashtoncollege.ca/contact/ and our admissions team will be in touch with you shortly.
Thank you!

Hi Ahmed,
Thanks for your interest in the Immigration Consultant Diploma program.
If you’re willing to take the program online it will take you about half a year if you study full-time or about a year if you study part-time to complete it. Then you will need to take the Entry-to-Practice exam from the ICCRC as per their schedule. Please find their dates on the website: https://iccrc-crcic.ca/become-a-rcic/
As for the exact cost of the textbooks and other questions related to this program please contact our admissions team at admissions@ashtoncollege.ca
Thank you!
Hello.
I am thinking of enrolling in your IMCD after July 31, 2020. I am noticed that the program will continue in its current form till December 31, 2022 and the final date for admitting new students is July 31, 2020. By the way, If I will enrol before the deadline and would like to register IMCD in Jan 2021, do i need to be the study permit holder at that time?
I wish to graduate before the new rules are in place, so I am working as a work permit holder and it is not allowed to join any of the educational programs in Canada now.
Hopefully, I will become a permanent resident in the latter half of 2020.
So, please let me know how I should do in order to enrol your IMCD while I am a work permit holder.
Thank you in advance.
Hi Daniel,
You can take the IMCD program when you have a study permit in Canada. However, in order to qualify for the licensing exam to become a registered immigration consultant, you need to become a Canadian permanent resident or a citizen.
Please get in touch with our admissions officer for more details: admissions@ashtoncollege.ca
Thank you!
