Fall into Volunteering: Give Gain Grow

Fall_email_1Volunteering gives you the opportunity to work with top organizations throughout Metro Vancouver. Volunteering is a great opportunity to give back to the community, meet new people and gain valuable work experience.

This fall, we are trying to encourage all Ashton students, faculty and staff to get involved and participate in local volunteering opportunities. If you would like to get involved with any of the organizations listed below, or want more information on local opportunities please contact Rachael Zapp or fill out our Volunteer Information Form. These opportunities are open to everyone at Ashton College, so don't hesitate to get involved!

Local Volunteering Opportunities

Vancouver Food Bank Society

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS) is supported by thousands of volunteers who generously offer their time to help out in a variety of ways. From individuals to corporate teams, there is an opportunity to contribute in a way that works for you or your organization.

Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

Volunteer at Canada’s largest single-day, volunteer-led event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, education, and health promotion initiatives. On Sunday, October 5, the CIBC Run for the Cure will be taking place at Concord Pacific Place.

There are plenty of opportunities available. Here are some examples:

  • Food & Beverage
  • Take-Down

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada

Each year, in communities across Canada, teams of families, friends, co-workers and local and national corporations come together to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada's (LLSC's) Light The Night Walk events and bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers.

Light The Night Walk events are evenings filled with inspiration. During this leisurely walk, family and friends gather in select sites across Canada to bring light to the dark world of cancer. Thousands of walkers carry illuminated lanterns showcasing their relation to the cause; a white lantern for blood cancer patients and survivors, a red one to walk as a supporter and a gold one in memory of a loved one lost.

On Saturday, October 18, volunteer at Vancouver's Light the Night Walk at Lumberman's Arch in Stanley Park. Volunteers are needed to assist in areas such as: set-up and take down, check-in, cheer stations, water stops, route guides, team photos, mission tent, registration, children's tent, incentives and other areas.

The Salvation Army

Volunteering with The Salvation Army is something people do everyday!

Volunteer opportunities are varied. Listed below are a few of the opportunities. There are many other ways too for you to be involved:

  • Answer telephones, general office work
  • Computer data entry
  • Assist in packing food hampers
  • Stocking shelves, sort toys
  • Sort clothes and price items at a Thrift Store
  • Ring the bells at Christmas kettles
  • Assist with mailing projects and other seasonal activities at the local level
  • Assist seniors; be involved in sports activities etc.
  • Emergency disaster relief

Earthsave Canada

Earthsave Canada is a registered charity helping people choose foods that benefit our health, the environment, and the lives of all animals. Do you have a passion for a plant-based diet? Would you like to make great use of your spare time and talents to help promote a healthy, sustainable and cruelty-free way of life? We are always looking for volunteers at Earthsave Canada! If you have the time and energy to lend your support by volunteering at events, in the office, or online, we would love to hear from you. It's a great way to get experience for yor resume while making a difference. There is something for everyone.
